About: Hyner View

Hyner View, located in scenic central Pennsylvania, has been home to foot-launched flying for both hang gliders and paragliders since 1975 and is one of the oldest flying sites on the East Coast.  Launch is located on D.C.N.R land known as  Hyner View State Park.  Hyner is one of the highest sites in PA and pilots enjoy flying this site year around.  Hyner, 1300' AGL (1949' MSL), was home of the 1978 Hang Gliding Nationals and we hold (5) fun Fly-In events throughout the year. With launch facing WNW, Hyner offers great flying during post-frontal days but can also be launched from S to North winds due to the round shape of the mountain.  Hyner is a great place for first high flights, intermediate pilots who need to practice launches/ landings and advanced pilots who enjoy challenging thermals with a terrific view.  In addition to Hyner, we have several other sites nearby in every direction.

The Landing Zone (LZ) is 1858' of flat,  regularly mowed grass that served as an airport from the mid 1930's to the 1950's (Hyner Airport History).  The LZ is located next to the Susquehanna river and offers plenty of shade for camping and relaxation in-between flying.  At night, the LZ is illuminated with camp fires surrounded by pilots exchanging flying stories.

Besides great flying, great friends and a relaxing atmosphere,  Hyner offers many other Activities for both pilots and their family to keep everyone entertained during their visit.  After spending a weekend at Hyner, you'll understand why people travel from far away to enjoy the best site on the East Coast!

See ya at Hyner!
